Paul Davis, singer of soul and country ballads, has died

He died in his hometown of Meridian, Mississippi yesterday after a heart attack on his 60th birthday.<br /><br />The balladeer whose soul and country numbers proved most successful on the easy listening market retired from performing shortly after his single ’65 Love Affair became a top ten hit on the Billboard charts, but he continued to be involved in the music industry as a writer and producer.<br /><br />He had recently returned to the studio with two new songs. <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.meridianstar.com/local/local_story_114012706.html">Art Matthews</a>, a long-time friend and former radio DJ, said of the track Today, “The song could’ve been a reflection back on his own life.
